2010 Winter National Olympics Race Report

Just got home from the 2010 Mini O’s in Gainesville, FL. This race is particularly special as it is held each and every year on the week of Thanksgiving. It is also different from other major amateur nationals because of the format. Racers first compete on a technical supercross track the beginning half of the week, then a challenging motocross track the latter half. Then in the end, results are combined from the two disciplines to decide who is the Olympiad Overall Champion in each class. On Thanksgiving Thursday, racing stops a little bit early to allow everyone to get all cleaned up for the Thor Dinner which everyone is invited to attend. Industry Managers from several competing companies stand side by side to serve the hungry motoheads who line up in the hundreds. I was fortunate enough to receive a promotion this year from the green bean serving of the past few years, to the uppermost echelon of Thor Thanksgiving Servers……”The Turkey Man”! Vurbmoto also stopped by to mic me up and bring out my innermost Rachael Ray. Now on to the racing! Just a preview, Rockstar riders were able to rack up (58) Top Tens, (38) Top Fives, (32) Podiums and (15) Titles!

Mini O’s was not only Joey Crown’s first major national as a part of the Rockstar Motocross Family but also his first big race on an 85. Joey was clearly already on the pace of the frontrunners and was also able to lock up a title in SX aboard his RM-85. This went really well with his two other titles in the 65 (10-11) Classes.

Also new to the team and the 85 class is Orlando, Florida’s Jordan Bailey. Jordan has also made a smooth transition to the 85 class, and like Crown, he too collected three Mini O’s titles.

Xtreme Rockstar Suzuki’s Jace Owen made a transition of his own as well. Jace joined the crew over at Xtreme and jumped to big bikes full time. The jump up from 85’s is a huge step and sometimes can be difficult. Not for Owen however as he rode very impressive all week and even claimed a title in the Motocross Youth (12-16) Mod Class!

Returning to the Xtreme Rockstar Suzuki squad was Millville Motocross’ Jeremy Martin. Martin is more at home on the MX style track but was able to collect two titles in SX on his way to 3 total.

Rockstar Suzuki’s Joey Savatgy overcame some bad luck on the SX track to take two titles in the motocross portion of the week. Joey is always one of the fastest riders on any track and will be a force to be reckoned with all year long.

Rockstar Suzuki’s Jordon Smith had a successful week in the start of his last year aboard Suzuki’s RM-85. Jordon was able to sweep every moto in SX and MX in the hotly contested 85 (12-13) Modified classes en route to two titles.

Top B rider Justin Summers is a new addition to Xtreme Rockstar Suzuki Team. Always found in or near the front of the pack, I am very happy to have Justin on board. He’s a nice kid but also a great rider. Not only was Summers able to take a title in the Open B stock class, but also pull a holeshot on his RMZ-250 against a field of 450’s!

Xtreme Rockstar Suzuki A class rider Landon Currier on the line with mechanic and Team Manager Ed Torrance. Landon is still recovering from an incident at Loretta Lynn’s but was able to make marked improvements throughout the week.

Rockstar Suzuki’s Steven Gretchen was pulling double duty at the Winter National Olympics. Steven was competing both on his RMZ-85’s as well as transitioning to his first major big bike race.

After a good outing in SX, Jake Pinhancos was unfortunately injured while leading on the MX track. Jake will be ok though and ready to get back to his winning ways by the Spring Nationals at Mill Creek.

Although Rockstar Suzuki’s Rookie White narrowly missed out on a couple titles, he still had a positive week of top fives and one podium.
