Ryan Morais # 65
Ryan Morais is setting his sights for the preimer 450 SX/MX classes in 2012. A seasoned veteran of the Supercross Lites class, he joins Star Valii Yamaha as a full time 450cc rider. In 2002 he made his first professional appearance in Supercross on the newly-formed McGrath Racing Team. This was not to be his year, however, as Ryan made it only half-way into his first heat race before sustaining a season-ending injury. His bad luck continued as he racked up injuries which would prevent him from fully competing in the series until 2007.
In 2007 Ryan proved he was capable of competing by earning two podiums and numerous top-five finishes. By trailing only a few points behind the East Coast Lites Supercross Title Ryan established himself as a permanent fixture in the racing world. In MX he came in seventh overall at Buchanan, Michigan under Boost Mobile Yamaha Team. In 2008 Ryan suffered an off-season injury before coming into the SX season. While the injury prevented him from competing fully for most of the series, the last few races saw him getting close to his maximum potential. He scored a second-place finish in Detroit and went into the 2009 season with more confidence in his riding abilities. The 2009 season of SX has been his best to date. Racing in the AMA Supercross Lites West Region he never finished out of the top five, had five second-place finishes and a total of seven podiums. While an injury hurt his chances for a successful outdoor season, the 2009 season of SX saw Ryan’s experience and patience with the sport pay off. In 2010 Ryan raced for Rockstar Energy Suzuki. After crashing out at Round 2 of Anaheim he missed multiple rounds of the series, but returned to the East Coast Region on top of a 450 bike. His debut in the premier class was impressive as he raced to finish 10th. Despite missing many of the West division races, Morais still finished 10th overall in 2010, thanks to top-five results in every competition which he raced. Unfortunately Morais was forced to sit out the outdoor season, after an injury to his thumb after a practice crash at Freestone TX. Morais returned aboard the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team for 2011 where he contested both the SX Lites Championship and the 250 AMA Pro Motocross Championship.

For the Star Valli Yamaha team, Nico Izzi overcame a crash in his practice sessions to finish fourth in his heat race, and then an impressive eighth in the Supercross Lites main event. “I was spitting up some blood,” admitted Izzi, “but I got checked out and decided to come back and race. I had a decent heat – I rode smart and smooth, and that’s what I wanted to do. In the main, I didn’t get a great start but I just kept (read full story)
